The perfect environment for yoga teacher training (YTT)

The must-have qualities that are important to Vidya Heisel, Suryalila’s director and Frog Lotus Yoga's founder, to enhance and optimize the YTT experience are:

  • A beautiful and spacious yoga hall
  • Organic, local, varied, and abundant vegetarian feasts
  • Excellent customer service
  • Comfortable and cozy accommodation
  • A peaceful atmosphere with no traffic or other noise or distractions

An extraordinary space

One of the things that is very important to Vidya is having a spacious, comfortable, and beautiful yoga hall in which to hold the trainings. The newly created Om Dome fulfills this desire perfectly, with underfloor heating, air conditioning, walls for inversion practice, a state-of-the-art sound system, atmospheric lighting, beautiful views, and lots of space.

The Om Dome is fully equipped with Manduka Pro mats, cork blocks, straps, blankets, and bolsters, so students do not need to bring any props with them.

All-inclusive comfort

Experience comfortable and spacious accommodation (no bunk beds), good AV equipment, break-out spaces for small groups to be able to teach each other during the trainings, and excellent customer service.

The Shakti Boutique is open daily so that students can shop for necessities and treats like shampoo, female sanitary products, great yoga clothes, gifts, books, and snacks. It carries anything that one might need or run out of when staying at Suryalila for a longer period.

There are also washing machines in the houses to do laundry. Suryalila offers all of this and more. The team there is particularly happy to host Frog Lotus Yoga's teacher training groups.

Suryalila provides different levels of all-inclusive accommodation to suit every budget. Every room is individually decorated with hand-picked pieces from Spain, Bali, India, and Morocco, inspired by founder Vidya’s travels around the world.

Combining her work as a fashion designer in Bali with a passion for art and interiors, Vidya brings her personal touch to every corner of Suryalila with flair and imagination. She loves to combine bright colors, interesting textures, and eye-catching artwork. Her intention is that everyone who goes there feels joyful and inspired by the vibrant decor.

Yoga shalas

  • Om Dome - It has always been part of Vidya’s dream to create the most magnificent yoga hall in Europe.
  • Moon Shala - Designed and built by natural builder Tom Rijven and his inspiring students and friends, the Moon Shala is a sustainable cob (straw bale and mud building).
  • Ganesha Yoga Shala - Ganesha Yoga Shala is Suryalila's lovely secondary yoga studio, which is large enough to accommodate over 30 yoga students. It's a beautiful yoga hall with a wood and beam ceiling.
  • Forest Shala - On the new and serene wooden platform nestled in the heart of nature, you’ll find the perfect space to reconnect with yourself. Whether you choose to embrace your own practice or join one of the thoughtfully curated events, this peaceful haven will invite you to slow down, breathe deeply, and truly be present.
  • Garden of Stillness - This is Suryalila's meditation garden, where you can take a moment for yourself or join a group meditation surrounded by the exquisite Andalusian countryside.

Salt-water pool and eco-sauna

At Suryalila Yoga Retreat Centre, you can relax and rejuvenate in their salt-water pool. The pool is set amidst stunning and vast vistas of the beautiful Spanish countryside. Summer months in Andalucia average at around 30º Celsius, so taking a dip in the pool can be a very regular event!

There is also a lovely covered terrace with dappled light, which offers shade from the hottest part of the day. You can also choose to sun yourself poolside on the wooden sunbeds in the full sunshine. Suryalila also has freshwater poolside showers, and all guests are provided with a large bath sheet on arrival.

Please note that there is no lifeguard on duty and parents must be responsible for their own children using the pool.

Suryalila endeavors to make your experience as beautiful as possible, and constantly upgrades their facilities.

Their facilities have been lovingly upgraded, and they now have a beautiful new panoramic sauna right by the pool. Picture yourself unwinding there, watching breathtaking sunsets on chilly evenings, surrounded by the comforting scent of wood. It’s the perfect place to let your body relax and recover while your soul soaks in the beauty of the moment.

Relaxing at Suryalila's pagodas and hang out areas

At Suryalila Retreat Centre, they take relaxing to an art form. They have several lovely pagodas to hang out in, as well as a few hammocks under the olive trees and numerous artfully placed benches.

The Moroccan Pavilion is their new favourite hangout area at Suryalila. It contains colorfully embroidered cushions from India, Guatemala, and Bali, as well as a Moroccan silver tray table. It is a great spot to relax, read a book, contemplate the expansive views, or watch the glorious Suryalila sunsets at.

The front pagoda is graceful and elegant, and overlooks the vegetable garden and the glorious view of Bornos Lake. The back pagoda is peaceful and also has lovely views over the ruined convent and rolling hills. Both have benches, lounging chairs, and hammocks. They can also be cleared to create small yoga spaces, with room enough for five mats.

The front pagoda was imported from Bali and works harmoniously with the Spanish cortijo style. Both pagodas are beautiful spaces for relaxing, reading, doing your own practice, chatting over a cup of tea, or watching the sunset. They both have terracotta tiles as well.

Their guests love their massages! Why? At Suryalila, they have a special team of experienced in-house therapists dedicated to creating unique and deeply relaxing massage experiences tailored to individual guest needs.

Specializing in a variety of styles including Thai yoga, deep tissue, and holistic massage, Suryalila's therapists use a magical combination of intuitive touch with expert techniques to massage away tensions and niggles in the body to leave you feeling restored, revived and rebalanced.

Your choice of massage

Suryalila always has a therapist on-site to tend to your body with the utmost care, professionalism, and skill. They provide a balanced range of massage styles to suit your needs, including Thai massage, deep tissue, and Ayurvedic yoga massage. Explore each massage style below so you can choose the massage that best suits your needs.

Integrative Thai yoga massage

This ancient technique is founded upon sharing loving kindness through touch. It is a grounded, floor-based practice, taking place on a thick and supportive mat. Clients are fully clothed, providing a sense of ease and comfort.

Thai yoga massage offers a sequence of movements that combine compression, trigger point release, and assisted stretching. It alternates between static and dynamic handling to provide a fully rounded and complete experience in body, mind, and spirit.

This practice helps unlock energy stagnation, improves fluid circulation, and has a deeply calming effect on the nervous system.

Suryalila's wonderful Thai therapist, Emeline, is passionate about the well-being of her clients. She applies her gentle touch to bring your body and mind into profound relaxation with care, awareness, and mindfulness. She has a strong affinity with nature and the connection between all beings.

Deep tissue oil massage

This is a table-based oil technique, focusing on sinking deep into the connective tissues to release held tension patterns. This style of massage involves long, slow strokes and direct pressure to target deeper tissues and muscular trauma.

Muscle tissue adhesions can develop over time, creating ridges or contracted tissues that can impact circulation, mobility, and flexibility, as well as cause inflammation. Deep tissue massage provides targeted release, gently but firmly, by breaking down these adhesions for greater range of motion, pain relief, and full-body release.

Suryalila's dedicated therapist Becky provides a deep, grounding treatment that will nourish you from root to tip. Massages are bespoke to your needs, nurturing a connection to body and breath to encourage release and healing.

The massage will relieve stress and tension, build muscle tone, improve circulation, release tightness, loosen fascia, and activate endorphins to feel relaxed and happy.

Ayurvedic yoga massage (AYM)

AYM is a full-body treatment that combines elements of deep tissue massage and yoga-based stretches. It is inspired by the Indian traditions of yoga and Ayurveda. This style of massage is integrated, dynamic, and deeply restorative, opening the body to experience complete rejuvenation. Each treatment is tailored to individual needs and complaints.

Some further benefits of this healing treatment are as follows:

  • Improves mobility and flexibility
  • Reduces muscle and joint tension
  • Stimulates the circulation of body fluids
  • Improves general posture and body alignment
  • Prompts breathing
  • Helps the digestive system

Suryalila's skilled therapist, Julie, brings a sense of openness in heart and soul with the popular AYM technique, inviting well-being on physical, mental, and emotional levels.

Drift into bliss with one of Suryalila's bespoke treatments...

Swedish massage

The focus of this technique is to release muscle tension, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. Swedish massage targets the superficial muscle layer, applying long, smooth strokes with hands, fists, or elbows. It can involve joint manipulation and tapotement (tapping).

Swedish massage is beneficial for immune system health through the stimulation of lymphatic flow, muscle release, stress relief, and improved range of motion.

Cranial sacral therapy

Cranial sacral therapy is a modality used to calm and integrate the nervous system to promote health and well-being. Treating the body as an interrelated system connected through an intelligent network of fascia, it improves self-regulation and promotes balance physically, mentally, and energetically.

Meditative touch is applied to specific areas to examine the flow of fluids, membranes, fascia, and pulse to encourage the system toward homeostasis.

Reiki

Reiki balances, cleanses, and purifies the energetic body. A client is fully clothed and lying down. The therapist applies light touch or hovers their hands over different areas in the body to relieve stress and anxiety and promote overall well-being for recipients.

Reiki is a form of energy healing, releasing blockages and stagnant energy as well as bringing body, mind, and spirit into alignment.
