Course information

Who is this for?

Dedicated yoga practitioners and teachers who have completed a 200‑hour training and/or have established a consistent Ashtanga Vinyasa practice. You're ready to be committed and disciplined in your practice in order to experience genuine transformation.

This program will provide participants with an experience of yoga that will bring greater depth and meaning to their practice and teaching. It is designed for those who are wishing to start incorporating the Intermediate Series postures into their self-practice, as well as those who already have an established practice in the Intermediate Series and are seeking the skills to be able to start incorporating this sequence into their teaching safely and effectively.

This program is also for those seeking to bring more practical knowledge of biomechanics into their understanding of yoga asana, as well as knowledge about the history and current context of classical yoga philosophy.

What Makes Us Unique

At the heart of this training is an extraordinary combination of teachers and place. Kamal Singh brings over two decades of Ashtanga mastery, celebrated worldwide for his energetic classes and transformative adjustments.

Aly Simeone offers rare depth in both embodied practice and classical scholarship, holding a PhD candidacy in Medical Anthropology: Ayurveda and an MRes in classical yoga philosophy, alongside her regular Ashtanga practice.

Sebastián Arbondo contributes 27 years of Ashtanga practice with advanced training in physiotherapy, FRC, and Kinestretch, bringing a uniquely functional and body-intelligent approach to anatomy and biomechanics.

Sunil Sharma, founder of Yoganga Healing in Rishikesh, brings over 25 years of teaching yoga, pranayama, and meditation, guiding students through the living teachings of the Bhagavad Gītā and the Haṭhayoga Pradīpikā.

Together, this faculty teaches in the intimate setting of Alma del Búho—a welcoming and soulful retreat center surrounded by olive groves, pine forests, and the warm light of southern Spain. Small cohort sizes ensure personal attention throughout.

Curriculum: Five Pillars of Study

Ashtanga Intermediate Series

Systematic exploration of the second series—posture by posture—with emphasis on breath, bandha, personalized modifications, and alignment. You will also learn how to provide meaningful hands-on assists and review assists pertinent to the primary series. The module includes an immersion in biomechanics for the practice of yoga asana, dedicated workshops on how to identify, prevent, and work around injury, workshops geared to the study of anatomy and biomechanics as they apply to the practice of yoga asana, and workshops in functional anatomy.

Yoga Philosophy

Tracing the history of yoga philosophy from the fertile intellectual and spiritual environment in which its foundational texts arose. Students engage directly with primary texts in translation—the Sāṃkhya Kārikā, the Yoga Sūtras, the Bhagavad Gītā, and the Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā—understanding how different schools of thought contributed to the understanding of yoga we inherit today and learning to weave philosophical insight into their teaching and personal practice.

Anatomy for Asana

Functional anatomy and biomechanics applied directly to yoga practice. Students gain the practical knowledge and skills needed to access the deeper benefits of their practice, while understanding how to avoid the long-term physical strains that can accompany an incorrect approach to asana. Learning to read the body with precision empowers both personal practice and confident, safe teaching.

Ayurveda

Students explore Ayurveda as one of the world's oldest empirical approaches to medicine and an enduring art of healing—tracing its historical roots and understanding how it came to be intimately connected with yoga philosophy and practice. The module examines the shared theoretical foundations between the two systems, and students also learn practical Āyurvedic tools—including daily routines, nutrition, and seasonal rhythms—to incorporate into their own lives and teaching.

Teaching Methodology

Advanced skills in sequencing, assisting, observation, and holding space. Practice teaching with mentored feedback throughout the training.
