About the Teacher Training Course
The LoveYoga Weekend 8-day Intensive is a transformational experience that enables a rite of passage of insight, self-discovery, and growth. It is a wonderful journey to embark upon that integrates not just into your practice and teaching, but into your life. You will emerge from the experience with greater knowledge, a deeper connection to breath and movement, and experiential understanding.
Group sizes are kept small to maximize the individual focus and attention needed for something as in-depth as this. Their approach to the entire training comes from the understanding that you all need both compassion and strength.
The training builds on the traditional Ashtanga Primary Series, whilst also exploring functional movement, somatics, and energetics. They ensure you are well equipped with effective tools and techniques to support students and to develop your own personal practice, far beyond the yoga mat.
They will cover variations to practice and adjustment of each posture of the Primary Series for different body types, levels of practice, and different injuries. You will get the chance to teach led and Mysore-style classes, learning how to conduct a class from start to finish, how to manage students, and how to keep the rhythm.
With an emphasis on the practical - they will cover the philosophy behind the practice, and the history, briefly explore and compare a number of translations of the Yoga Sutra, and talk about ethics and the business of teaching. This is meant to provide students with a broad understanding of where yoga came from and why it is still relevant and beneficial today.
The course will also explore each of the elements (earth, water, fire, air, and space) and how these relate to the gunas (Rajas, Tamas, and Satva). This links into the 5 Koshas, what each layer / sheath refers to, and how in a class you can reference these layers in the process of helping students to let go.
The course will explore the energetic anatomy of the body and take a deeper look into the sushumna nadi, ida, and pingala, how they weave up the spine, and how the are impinged when the breath is held or stopped or negative thoughts take over. You will explore Mula, Udiyana, and Jaladhara Bandhas further, where they are located, and again their physical and energetic impact on the practice.
Further, you will explore prana, and the Flow of Energy through the nadis or energy channels, illustrating the connection between the cross-over points of the ida and pingala and the chakras. They are required to learn each of the chakra's names, representative color, location, and energetic / emotional relevance.
The philosophy section will close with student teachers being asked to compare different translations of The Yoga Sutra and share their own explanation/synopsis of each chapter.
Sample Daily Schedule:
- 07:00 - 09:00 Daily asana / pranayama practice
- 10:00 - 12:00 Students to explore teaching the baby sequence, 5 x Sun Salute A’s and 5 x Sun Salute B’s - explaining movement, breath and count in English and Sanskrit. Then onto the Primary Series - counting and adjusting Padangustasana and Pada Hastasana
- 13:00 - 15:00 Anatomy: hips. Explore the pelvis, starting with skeletal femur placement, hip socket, tail bone, sacrum, and spine. Move into rotations lateral, medial, movement extension, and flexion and the different muscles that support / help each through the legs, buttocks, and lower spine. Look at common injuries to the hips, hip replacements, and how to support / protect against injury
- 17:30 - 19:30 Observation of teaching Mysore, what is adjusted, who is adjusted, what is left, observe how the teacher welcomes each student, approaches them, places hands, engages, supports their breath, stays grounded, and supports the student to focus and stay focused with language and the use of the count
