Location

Tejina and Tenerife

Tenerife is of volcanic origin and is the largest of the seven Canary Islands. It is located around 300 kilometers from the African coast and about 1,300 kilometers from the Spanish mainland. It has an area of 2,034 square kilometers, with the gigantic Pico del Teide rising up to 3,718 meters in the center, making it the highest point of Spain.

Tenerife is known throughout the world as the island of eternal spring. The traditional architecture of the Canary Islands takes its inspiration mainly from the traditional architecture of Andalusia and Portugal, although it also has a strong personality of its own.

Tejina

The small resort of Tejina lies on the rocky coast in the northeast of Tenerife. It is surrounded by the foothills of the Anaga Mountains. The village and the surroundings are very rural and idyllic. The climate is extremely pleasant as temperatures do not sink below 15 degrees Celsius, even in winter.

A harvest festival is an important event, and the people of Tejina have a rather unusual way to celebrate it. The festival is called ''The Hearts of Tejina'' and is held in August. Hearts are decorated with flowers, fruit, and cakes, and each heart is around 12 meters tall and weighs about 1,000 kilograms.

When the three main neighborhoods in the town bring out the hearts that they have been working on for a month, an entertaining ritual begins, in which each neighborhood mocks the others' hearts. The festivity dates back over a hundred years.

Food

As students all have different dietary habits, allergies, and food intolerances, they can feel free to use the school kitchen to prepare vegetarian meals and snacks for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to their choice and taste.

Normally, Gayatri Yoga's trainees form kitchen teams and prepare food from all over the world together and have fun in the kitchen. This way, you will not need to cook every day, and each kitchen team normally cooks just twice a week. But, feel free to prepare something just for yourself if you want more privacy.

This system also allows Gayatri Yoga to keep a fair and lower price for their training, as they all work hand in hand as Karma yogis together.

Gayatri Yoga provides many groceries, plenty of fruits, and vegetables all day long. They have never had hungry or unhappy students, and actually, there will be no need for you to buy anything or spend any money on extras, as you will always have access to the school kitchen.

They are, of course, not able to fulfill personal wishes, but there is a supermarket close to the school, where you can buy your favorite personal snacks.
