The jungle accommodations are simple, comfortable, and surrounded by nature. The property is lush with greenery, regional flowers, and swaying palms. From your outdoor yoga shala, you will see over 100 species of plants, numerous breeds of regional birds, and bushes filled with bright red hibiscus flowers. You will stay in apartments that are designed for either shared group or single occupancy preferences. All students will have their own beds in a shared or private room.
Each apartment has a washroom, and there is also a washroom at the shala and a shower near the pool. Rooms are cooled with Caribbean breezes and fans. Kootenay Yoga School aims to keep their eco-footprint small. This is supported by not using AC. They ask that students be gentle on the resources; the island is limited in supply.
Program
How the training works
The course consists of four weeks of online training followed by 15 days of onsite immersion in Mexico. During the online part of the training, there are one or two live sessions per week (recordings available). You will need a reliable internet connection and Zoom to participate in the live sessions. You will receive pre-training assignments - a light, meaningful work to prepare and inspire - and a comprehensive manual to study during programming and use as a resource in the future.
During the in-person program, daily yoga classes will be held in the outdoor or open-air yoga shala, and meditation sessions will be provided on-site and off-site near the beautiful Caribbean sea. Learn to deepen your own comfort for meditation and lead others gracefully. The team and community support are ongoing. You will have continued communication and resources as well as professional development opportunities, after the initial training.

What is special about this program
What sets this program apart is its immersive, not intensive, approach. Each day is thoughtfully curated to create space for learning, integration, and inspiration from sunrise meditations welcoming the first light over the island, to poolside philosophy chats, embodied practice, and evening reflections. The team is made up of authentic, heart-led wellness professionals, each passionate about delivering high-quality education in a way that feels accessible, supportive, and fun. You will stay in simple, cozy accommodations surrounded by nature, and enjoy three nourishing, home-cooked meals daily, crafted with love using seasonal, regional ingredients.
