Program

The study program is built on the principles of small class sizes, high-quality teaching, deeper learning and understanding, and a stronger connection to your consciousness and inner peace. Throughout the program, you will explore a wide range of topics, including:

  • Diving into yoga and Ayurveda principles to get a deep understanding and a compass for your observations of life and tools to move further in your practice and your development as a teacher.
  • Studying the yoga traditions' principles and the different aspects deepens your understanding of Patanjali’s eight limbs from the Yoga Sutra, the Koshas, the four main directions, Advaita Vedanta–Non-Duality, and the Heart Sutra, to name some.
  • Exploring the history of yoga through the ancient texts and stories of the Vedas, Ramayana, Mahabharata, to the modern enlightened Masters like RamaKrishna, Vivekananda, Yogananda, Osho, Alan Watts, Thich Nhat Hanh, Iyengar, Jois, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and Sadhguru.
  • Being with yourself, knowing yourself through the experience of your body, mind, emotions, and soul through yoga, will ultimately define your presentation as a teacher. Your communication abilities will develop as you become aligned and your nervous system is strong and at ease, something which they will give you experience with through “Somatic Mindfulness”. This will enable you to lead a class effectively while connecting with your students, and at the same time, not losing your energy and mixing up your aura.
  • Learning about alignment, variations, precautions, benefits of asanas, and pranayama. How to meet different bodies and needs, and assist your students with alternatives and with equipment.
  • Gaining a foundational understanding of yoga-related physiology and anatomy, especially with an emphasis on the endocrine or hormone system in relation to the Chakra system, as well as the nervous system. They also explain the digestive system in Western terms, as well as the Ayurvedic understanding. Going through organ health and all the big systems of the body.
  • Developing skills for safe and effective hands-on adjustments, as well as understanding different styles and intentions of touch/ no-touch, oral teaching, and repetition.
  • They will share some business models, ethics, and fundamental economic aspects of running a yoga studio and /or teaching in other forms. They love to look at your specific situation and dream, and coach you into carving out your “product” and/or dialogue with you about your further development if you ́re already in a business. They have more than 20 years of experience in entrepreneurship and running businesses in Norway and will share everything applicable with you.
  • Understanding how to read bodies—both physically and emotionally— according to Ayurvedic principles of the body and yogic philosophies of the mind. You will dive into how to be with yourself and find grounding in relation to a group and individuals through the art of Somatic Mindfulness and other energy practices, as well as practical and energetic preparation for good energy in groups, rooms, studios, etc.
  • Learning the principles of sequencing asanas according to the Chakras, creating the desired stimuli of the energies in the body, with the build-up for the effects wished for. You integrate breath with movement and being in all asanas.
  • Learning how to teach a yoga class as a complete treatment with conscious inclusion of all aspects of yoga according to body, mind, and spirit.
  • Becoming aware and conscious of your being, and finding confidence in your voice, hands, and body language, and also becoming familiar with your strengths and insecurities, so you can inspire, encourage, and enhance in your teaching, and be an inspiration with all of you integrated.
  • Understanding the fundamentals of transformation, going beyond the mind, your limitations, moving through with all the techniques from the yoga tradition, into the essential knowledge of inner truth, and changing the focus into your true identity of self.
  • Applying yoga to different conditions of imbalance, physical, emotional, and mental, and you will look into the different balancing needs according to Vata, Pitta, Kapha, and also how to meet common modern imbalances.

This program is designed to help you grow as a human, practitioner, and teacher, equipping you with the knowledge, tools, and experience to guide others on their yoga journey with confidence and expertise. They will teach you with their presence and highest interest, to give you deep knowledge and experience to share further on your way. They will encourage you and motivate you to take brave steps, believe in your ability to reach your full potential, and give birth to your dreams. You will have a one-to-one dialogue with your main teacher, Helene, who is a Zen coach and guide in Somatic Mindfulness as well as a yoga and Ayurveda teacher. There will be six collections.

Classical yoga

Classical yoga, also known as Hatha yoga, is the basic physical yoga form that other styles are based on, such as Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Yin, and the basic exercises in Medical and Kundalini yoga. Classical yoga offers classic asanas that strengthen and stretch, along with deep breathing and relaxation. The practice includes basic postures and breathing techniques that strengthen and calm the nervous system while balancing the hormonal system. It stimulates the lymphatic system and supports healthy blood circulation.

An introduction is provided to the effects, adjustments, variations, counter-exercises, and contraindications. Iyengar yoga, also a classical form, is included as a sample, though full Iyengar training follows a separate certification track. In Iyengar, props and aids are used to help all practitioners, regardless of level, achieve correct alignment and effective stretching.

Breathing and postures

Yoga is distinguished from gymnastics, exercise, and stretching primarily through its use of breath and reliance on relaxation rather than force. This often becomes the most significant transition for practitioners and opens a new relationship with the body and self. Once basic yoga postures are established, creativity and variation are introduced. A broad sampling of yoga directions is provided so that each individual may practice according to personal inspiration. One-on-one support helps students find meaning in the home program and develop adaptations as needed.

Students are taught to create yoga classes and home sequences based on the provided knowledge, applying their own creativity and insight. The training emphasizes a foundational understanding of classical exercises—the root of all other yoga forms. Students are also introduced to Ashtanga, Vinyasa or flow, Yin, Kundalini, and medical yoga.

Asanas, pranayama, meditation, and kriya

Asanas

Postures, or asanas, are designed to strengthen, balance, and release various parts of the body. These movements support energy flow and help optimize organ function, muscle flexibility, joint health, and circulation systems. Each exercise is practiced in connection with breath, and a variety of breathing styles are taught alongside the postures. Variation and modification are emphasized to support diverse body types and conditions. Props may be used when needed—for example, to support stiffness or injury.

Practical knowledge

When teaching began in Mandal, many of the students were women aged 40 to 70 rather than young athletes. This led to the development of methods for making every exercise accessible regardless of condition. That practical knowledge is passed on through this training.

Kriya

Yoga postures and breathwork serve to detoxify the body by activating the lymphatic system, digestion, blood vessels, muscles, and joints, encouraging cell renewal and waste elimination (Ama). Yoga also includes a range of cleansing practices—known as kriya—for the eyes, nose, and digestive tract. These fundamental kriya techniques from the Hatha yoga tradition are introduced during the course.

Lifestyle and Ayurveda

Ayurveda offers tools for recognizing needs based on constitutional type (prakriti) and the elements and forces (doshas) of nature. Body types are identified, along with insights and lifestyle tips for regulation and balance. This often leads to deeper understanding—not just of the self, but also of others—and promotes greater tolerance for personal differences. Tools are provided to help support clients with practical yoga exercises and lifestyle guidance tailored to individual needs. The focus is on gaining a solid understanding of Ayurvedic principles, with the option to explore further. Dietitians and nutritionists may find new perspectives that can be applied in their own practice.

Meditation and relaxation

Meditation (Dhyana)

Dhyana is a state of awareness that offers profound rejuvenation beyond time and space. It can arise from various methods and concentration techniques (Dharana), and often occurs spontaneously, even when unrecognized. In the yoga tradition, physical postures (asanas) serve primarily to prepare for meditation. Meditation techniques may be practiced without entering meditation itself, but still bring beneficial effects and often lead toward deeper states of presence. An introduction and practice of several meditation techniques is included.

Relaxation (Yoga Nidra)

Yoga Nidra, or conscious rest, helps integrate the benefits of yoga and other physical activity. This involves guiding attention to the body and breath in order to enter deep rest. Different techniques and tools are explored, along with the effects and reasoning for their use in the yogic system.

Anatomy, philosophy, history, business, and expectations

Anatomy

Western anatomical knowledge is presented in relation to yoga postures. Coverage includes skeletal, muscular, circulatory, endocrine, lymphatic, and nervous systems. Each system is linked to how yoga exercises impact and stimulate various functions. The relationship between yoga, Ayurveda, and Western anatomy is explored to determine what is most useful for yoga teachers.

Philosophy

This section includes yogic psychology and related insights, such as mindfulness and presence. It explores the deeper meaning of yoga techniques—why they are practiced and how they create change. Traditional models of the human being are introduced, including consciousness, intuition, emotions, subconscious, and cognitive functions.

History

Selected ancient stories are shared, forming the historical roots of yoga. Additionally, significant yogis and the development of modern yoga (over the past 100–150 years) are explored, particularly those who shaped yoga in the West.

Business and sustainability

  • Instruction is provided on ethical teaching practices and sustainable work methods to avoid burnout. Topics include business setup, marketing, and finance.

Expectations and requirements

By completing the training, participants gain a solid foundation for teaching yoga. Each student is supported in developing their personal practice and teaching style to step confidently into the role of teacher. Online follow-up between sessions includes access to the main teacher for one-on-one questions and support. Physical, emotional, and mental integration is fostered through required home practice. Requirements include:

Home practice in yoga, breathwork, and meditation

Simple lifestyle tasks

Light reading assignments

Video lessons and Q&A

Small group teaching practice

Evaluated teaching sessions

Written exam leading to international certification

Teaching assignments begin early to avoid unnecessary pressure. Some participants may integrate the training directly into existing work (e.g., PTs or instructors), while others take a gradual approach. Those using the course for personal growth may teach yoga to family and close individuals or adapt the learning experience accordingly.
