Requirements

Sun Salute Retreats requires that you have at least one year of background with yoga, dance, or bodywork before the beginning of the training and that you complete a bunch of homework before arrival, to get everyone up to a similar level in anatomy and biomechanics, plus to give you a foundational understanding of the philosophy of yoga.

This will also help you to follow the course more easily while you are in Spain. The homework can be done in your own time from the comfort of your own home. You will just need a Wi-Fi connection. It consists of online classes and workshops, reading, studying the poses, and practicing teaching.

Sun Salute Retreats believes that one month is not enough time for you to become a great teacher, and so, therefore, they have you begin the course as soon as you can so that you can absorb the information in a deeper way. This has been working well for the graduate teachers as they can teach immediately and are usually hired by the best studios.

Whether you are an aspiring student seeking to deepen your knowledge of the yoga practice or you wish to become a teacher, this 200-hour yoga teacher training program is for those students who wish to put effort and hard work into learning, so that they can take their personal development and skills as a facilitator to new heights.

So, come join this very exciting and deeply rewarding life journey.

Course Requirements

At Sun Salute Retreats, we ask that all participants have at least one year of experience in yoga, dance, or bodywork before the start of the training. This foundational background ensures that everyone begins the course with a shared understanding of movement and body awareness.

To help prepare you further, there is pre-course homework designed to bring all students to a similar level in anatomy, biomechanics, and yoga philosophy. This preparation will make it easier for you to engage with the material once you're in Spain. The assignments can be completed at your own pace from home and include:

  • Online classes and workshops
  • Reading assignments
  • Pose study and practice
  • Practice teaching exercises
  • All you need is Wi-Fi and commitment.

They believe that true teaching mastery takes more than just one month. That’s why the training begins as soon as you sign up, allowing you to gradually absorb the material in a deeper and more meaningful way. Their graduates have found this approach incredibly effective — many are confidently teaching right away and securing positions at top studios.

Whether you're an aspiring yoga teacher or a dedicated student looking to deepen your practice, this 200-hour teacher training is for those who are ready to put in the work, expand their skills, and embark on a powerful personal journey.

Included excursions

SUP Board Yoga class at the Mar Menor (small sea)

A fun yoga class in our water studio in the Mar Menor area. Enjoy a yoga class in a different way (if weather permits)

Mud Baths

Mud baths are natural spa treatments where people soak in therapeutic mud, often rich in minerals like sulfur and magnesium. These baths are believed to help detoxify the skin, ease joint pain, and improve circulation. Found in places with geothermal activity or mineral-rich springs, mud baths have been used for centuries for both relaxation and healing.

Hot Water Spa (bathe in the natural mineral waters)

A trip to the natural hot water spa is included in your training. After a hard day's work, immerse yourself in the soothing warmth of natural mineral waters while powerful water massage jets melt away tension and stress. Strategically placed to target key pressure points, these jets provide a deep, therapeutic massage that soothes sore muscles, boosts circulation, and promotes total relaxation. Whether you're easing into a calm soak or enjoying a full hydrotherapy session, the spa's water jets offer the perfect blend of nature and luxury.

Excursions

Sun Salute Retreats will help you to orient yourself to the area, activities, and restaurants, such as boat trips, day trips to Murcia (one-hour and 20-minute bus ride), and Cartagena (40 minutes by taxi). Granada and the Alhambra are four hours and 30 minutes away by bus.

Hiking, diving, and visiting the Calblanque Natural Park, Natural Reserve Cabo De Palos, Natural Hot Springs of Thalasia, as well as watching flamingos and taking a natural mud bath at Parque Natural de Las Salinas de San Pedro are available. There are beaches within walking distance, as well as restaurants, coffee shops, local markets, and tapas bars nearby.

Please note that these trips are extra and are not included as part of the training. You can add them to your trip before or after the training. You will only have three days off during the dates of the 200-hour YTT.

San Pedro Market

One of the best ways of exploring and enjoying Alicante and the surrounding province is to visit the street markets. There, you will find not only local products such as the local pastries, fresh Mediterranean fruit, and vegetables, or something authentically Spanish like empanadillas.

These street markets and flea markets are also there for you to get lost in, to discover bargains in used or second-hand objects, and to be enticed by a multitude of vintage items that are now difficult to find.

Immerse yourself in this welter of bargains and discoveries that these markets have to offer. The transfer is about 15 EUR one-way, to be split between one to six people.

Las Charcas in San Pedro del Pinatar (healing mud baths in nature)

The famous mud from the Mar Menor has made Murcia an important destination for health and beauty tourism. Nevertheless, this region in southeastern Spain also has a wealth of mineral-rich, medicinal waters in inland areas.

In the town of Archena, 25 kilometers from the city of Murcia, you will find a good example. Its spa resort boasts having been Spain's most popular thermal center at the end of the 19th century. It continues to be a renowned complex to this day.

It is set in the fertile Ricote Valley, an area of countryside irrigated by the Segura River, with interesting contrasts of landscape: palm groves, orange, and a variety of fruit trees are flanked by arid-looking mountains. The result is a unique, peaceful setting that is ideal for rest and relaxation. Transfers are included in your package.

Rent a bike

Alicante possesses an extraordinary cultural, natural, and ethnographic richness. The best way to get to know the places and people that constitute these hidden and wonderful landscapes of the Iberian Southeast is by hiking or cycling.

Flamenco dinner and night out in Murcia

Murcia highly values the customs of traditional life, including paseo, tapas, and plazas. With about half a million inhabitants, it has an excellent nightlife, which is mostly around the university area, and also has good shopping opportunities, with plenty of fashion boutiques and interior stores.

You will have the opportunity to see a live performance in a flamenco bar while having dinner, or just spending some time shopping or walking around. Transfers are about 60 EUR each way, to be split between a group of one to six people, 40 40-minute taxi ride, one-way.

Cartagena

If you’re looking for reasons to visit Cartagena, Spain, then you don’t have to look far. As the second-largest city in southeastern Spain’s underrated Murcia region, Cartagena doesn’t get nearly the amount of attention it deserves, and this is a real shame.

Packing in everything from a classic Spanish charm - perennially beautiful weather, local gastronomic specialties, and incredible history - Cartagena has so much to offer and should make it onto your next Spain itinerary.

Cartagena, Spain, is a dynamic and multifaceted city that is situated on Murcia’s Costa Cálida. It is also the perfect place to visit if you’re looking to avoid tourist crowds and have a relaxing and stress-free visit to Spain. With plenty of outdoor activities, historic sites, and delicious food to be had, it really checks all the boxes for a perfect Spanish holiday destination!

Transfers are about 60 EUR each way, to be split between a group of one to six people, a 40-minute taxi ride, one-way.

Hiking

There are many different hiking routes: coastline walks, natural parks, and reserves. Visit places like Cabo de Palos. Walk around the Mar Menor. This will incur an extra cost for transfers.

Horseback riding

Alicante is the perfect environment for horseback riding. It's multiple paths and trails will take you through a diversity of landscapes and views. There are different options for your group, length, distance, and duration to determine the price. However, usually, it is around 25 EUR per person per hour. The transfer is about 60 EUR for one to six people.

Standup paddle boarding (SUP) or kayaking

  • Available in the Mar Menor Natural Park Area or Cabo Roig
  • 25 EUR per person (transfers are about 15 EUR for one to six people)

Visit Granada

The Alhambra, in pace with its history, has become the destination of many tourists and probably the best treasure of the city of Granada. To enjoy the beauty of the palatine chambers, the scents of the courtyards and gardens, the games of light and color of the richly decorated halls, and the impressive views of the Albaycin and the Vega constitutes a privilege for your senses.

A place for cultural meetings and the destination chosen by millions of people worldwide, it will lead you to rethink its value in a global world subjected to multiple stresses. The Alhambra has lived, is living, and will continue living, thus making the heritage maxim possible as an evolutionary concept not anchored in time.

When you visit, the Alhambra will be a part of you because it is yours and everyone's. The trip will include a three-hour bus ride for about 25 EUR.

Spa treatments

There are different types of therapies that you can book for an additional price. For example:

  • Private yoga classes: 90 EUR
  • Massage deep tissue or Swedish massage: 55 EUR for 50 minutes
  • Manicures and pedicures available extra: 10 to 15 EUR
