Feel the immersion into Norwegian nature when you are staying in these very comfortable bell glamping tents. The sounds of nature will lull you to sleep and wake you up to a beautiful view and fresh air, surrounded by nature and peace but still in comfortable accommodation for you to be able to relax completely. At Hagabrekka Wanderland, you are far away from everyday stress.
This also means that the standard is lower than what the average Westerner is used to. They are completely off grid, growing parts of their own food and using principles of permaculture to create a little paradise. This also means a different experience than what most people are used to: There is no grid power or water. They have solar power in some areas of the property, composting toilets, and are pumping water from a river nearby, so no running water. They are surrounded by untouched nature, with all the other beings sharing the space with them. This means that you will encounter spiders and other insects. Here, you truly get disconnected from the digital hassle and connected to nature and the present moment.
- Accommodation consists of a glamping tent, shared between 4, 2 people in one tent, or a private option.
Program
Sustainable lifestyle and permaculture are at heart of the development of Hagabrekka Wanderland. They want to offer you tools to use in your own life, or sharing with others through your teachings. They want to offer you a grounding experience where you not only reconnect to nature but where you reconnect to yourself.
You can expect a diversity of classes, nature experiences and views that take your breath away, icy rivers and lakes, disconnecting from your devices, healthy wholesome meals, new friendships, connections and laughter around the bonfire and taking yourself outside your comfort zone, the only place you grow as human beings.
This is an intense course, and not a luxury retreat. It might take you out of your comfort zone as you will be living off-grid with daily tasks requiring physical work that you might not be used to. You will take part in the everyday jobs to live in sync with nature, as sustainably as you can (Karma yoga 1.5 hours a day).
This means that you will partake in foraging for your meals, help out in the kitchen, doing your own dishes as well as hard physical tasks like chopping firewood, working on the land etc. But you are rewarded with a view of the mountain, surrounded by untouched nature, your alarm clock is the nearby waterfall and birds chirping. Not to mention the feeling of having used both your body and your mind in a good way when your head hits the pillow in the evening.
This course is for you who want to deepen your knowledge and practice. You should have some basic knowledge of yoga and have practiced it before, but you don't need any advanced practice. You only need to have embraced yoga as something you want to have in your life.
Yoga
Their approach to yoga is a holistic way of integrating yoga in all parts of life, not only on the mat. Some things go hand in hand with regenerative lifestyle and permaculture. You will have an introduction to the philosophy of yoga and connecting this to sustainable lifestyle practices.
Asana, pranayama and pratyahara
Each morning will start with Vinyasa yoga with elements of Hatha. In the evening it will be either gentle Restorative class or Yin, a relaxing session where the focus is on presence, breath, and cultivating the inner world that you want to have. In all classes, there is an individual focus, so you will have the opportunity to develop your personal practice. The classes offer a combination of dynamic and static positions.
Reconnecting to nature, the yogic lifestyle, permaculture and three dimensions of sustainable living
We as humans has for a long time been living in communities close to nature, in harmony with the earth. With the current development of civilization there has been a gradual separation between human beings and nature. They want to intentionally reintroduce the concept for people to reconnect to the awareness that we are not separate from nature, but we are a part of earth, increasing mindfulness to ensure well-being not only for humans but all life forms. Sustainability is often connected to an ecological aspect: renewable energy, food, self-reliance etc. But they want to introduce a holistic outlook, reflected in more dimensions that will be a part of how you are living together during the course.
- Care of people, the social dimension (steps 1 and 2 in yoga)
How we relate to others around us is in yoga called Yama and it’s the first step in yoga practice. At Hagabrekka you will experience to live in a community, and it is essential to be considerate to all the people you share the space with, learning from the people that are different from yourselves. They want to offer the experience of community living, encouraging unity through the respect of differences. The community, the feeling of being supported and cared for, is an essential part of a sustainable life, to be able to realize yourself. The kindness and compassion that you are cultivating towards the others will also be directed towards yourself, the next step in yoga; Niyama which is your individual discipline.
- Care of the planet, the ecological and material dimension (steps 3 and 4 in yoga)
They are protecting biodiversity and promoting mindfulness towards use of resources in daily life at Hagabrekka. You will learn about how to minimize your ecological footprint, avoiding processed food and products in general, embracing a natural way of life, moving away from using chemicals in personal hygiene, how to forage wild herbs and plants and using them as a way to heal through diet. There will be an introduction to what you grow, edibles in the nature, and all participants will take part in foraging in the forest and picking vegetables in the garden for the meals. You will take part in tasks needed for the daily life of living off-grid.
The asana and pranayama practice, the two next steps in yoga philosophy, help you to keep a healthy body and mind which is essential to care for the land and the daily tasks you will undertake. The asana practice is not only creating strength, mobility and balance, but it teaches you how to use your bodies when performing other tasks like chopping firewood or foraging. At the same time, working the land, eating healthy organic self-grown and wild food is keeping your bodies healthy.
- Fair share, the joy dimension (steps 4 to 8 in yoga)
The last four steps in yoga philosophy, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi, take you to the importance of your inner world and introspection. It teaches you how to turn the gaze inwards, to be able to stop letting thoughts and ego control you and to find the natural joy that is within you. Connecting to nature and the elements through the practice of focusing your mind, the practice of meditation and awareness, is essential not only for your own peace and happiness but to be able to perceive the world around you as something not separate from you, but that you are all the same. Realizing that greed is only hurting yourself, that fair share is the way to benefit all, yourself included, is an essential part of permaculture, as well as the ultimate realization of yoga practice. Feeling and knowing the oneness of yourself with world around you are the ultimate goals of yoga.
As Samadhi (enlightenment), the 8th step of yoga, might be out of reach in this lifetime for most of us, you will work on developing an open mind and ease to handle any challenging situations. This will further progress a calm approach towards anything that life present to you, as well as finding the joy of fair share to be an essential part of keeping your balance.
