Hot Yoga has continued to boom.

One of the reasons for the latest renaissance of Hot Yoga is due to the fact the HARVARD UNIVERSITY recently published their research confirming The Tremendous Benefits Of Hot Yoga In Reducing Symptoms Of Depression.

HARVARD UNIVERSITY, "Heated Hot Yoga May Reduce Depression Symptoms." (PMID: 37883245)

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry conducted a randomized controlled trial with 80 adults, comparing those who participated in Bikram yoga sessions in a 105°F room to a waitlist control group.

Over 8 weeks, the yoga group attended an average of 10.3 classes, leading to significantly greater reductions in depressive symptoms compared to the control group.

Assessments using the Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (IDS-CR) scale showed that 59.3% of yoga participants experienced a 50% or greater decrease in symptoms, and 44% reached remission, compared to only 6.3% in the waitlist group. Even those attending only half the prescribed sessions saw benefits, suggesting once-weekly sessions could be effective.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression linked to seasonal changes, often starting in fall and lasting through winter. Symptoms like low energy and moodiness usually resolve in spring and summer. SAD can also occur in spring or summer, subsiding in fall or winter.

Hot Yoga for SAD:

Hot yoga, performed in a heated room (105°F with 40% humidity), may help alleviate SAD symptoms:

  • Heat Exposure: Mimics sunlight, boosting serotonin and endorphin production to enhance mood.
  • Exercise and Neurotransmitter Balance: Releases endorphins and boosts serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine for mood regulation.
  • Mental Health Benefits: Reduces cortisol levels, lowering stress and anxiety and promotes relaxation through mindfulness and deep breathing.
  • Physiological and Emotional Well-being: Improves sleep patterns and aids detoxification, enhancing overall well-being.

Heat Shock Proteins (HSPs):

HSPs are crucial for cellular health, responding to stressors like heat, and aiding in protein maintenance. Dr. Rhonda Patrick's research highlights heat stress benefits on HSPs, suggesting that hot yoga or sauna use can:

  • Enhance cellular health.
  • Support neuroprotection.
  • Reduce stress.
  • Aid muscle recovery.
  • Benefit cardiovascular health.
  • Strengthen the immune system.

Hot yoga and sauna sessions stimulate HSP production, promoting overall well-being and health.

Location

North Kuta, Bali

This program will take place in the sub district of Kerobokan Kelod which is in the district of North Kuta in the regency of Badung in Bali.

About the Location

YogaFX international yoga teacher training academy is located in the heart of Seminyak Bali.

Seminyak is a mixed tourist residential area on the west coast of Bali in Indonesia, just north of Kuta and Legian, and only 20 minutes from Ngurah Rai (Bali) International Airport (DPS).

Originally a separate township, this is now another suburb of Kuta. This area is very popular with resident expatriates and yoga is becoming increasingly popular in this very fashionable district. There are plenty of spas and hotels abound. Owing to its high density of high-end shopping, combined with the clustering of many fine eating establishments.

It is one of the most well-known tourist areas on the island. In addition to a few commercial strips with popular and lively restaurants, bars, villas, and good crafts / furniture shops, there are a few notable establishments: Ku dé ta, which is a bar / restaurant with a cult following based on its beachside / semi-resort atmosphere that has earned it the title of number one party spot in various magazines, and Oberoi, which is an expensive hotel with a worldwide reputation.

Jalan Raya Seminyak (more often referred to as Jalan Legian), runs parallel with the beach, bisecting the district and acts as its main road artery complete with many shopping and dining experiences.

All of these locations are within a 15 - 20 minute maximum from YogaFX teacher training academy and a short 2-minute bike ride to Ku de ta and other popular locations dotted along the beach.

Situated some 10 kilometers from Denpasar, the capital city of Bali, Seminyak stretches from double six street in the south and morphs into the villages of Kerobokan and Umalas, north of Pura Petitenget temple.

The atmosphere here is much more sophisticated and laid-back compared to Kuta, while the beach, in particular, is relatively quieter during the day and the perfect spot for a practicing our yoga teacher training on Seminyak beach.

Fabulous Seminyak is the center of life for hordes of the island’s expats, many of whom own boutiques, design clothes, surf, or do seemingly nothing at all. You could easily spend your entire holiday in Seminyak.

Food

Your Choice of Meals

It is very important to eat the food that you like. When you join the course in Bali you will be treated as adults, and their goal is to keep your yoga environment as close to a real-life scenario as possible.

One of the most difficult transitions a new yoga student will go through is the first week of their yoga teacher training new faces, new environments, new routines, many more yoga practices than you are used to, and a lot of new information to take in. They understand this and that your food choices are paramount for internal harmony.

They feel that there is no point in them providing you with 3 meals a day of the food that (their accommodation provider might be comfortable in preparing) you don’t like.

The majority of student complaints during a yoga teacher training course (yes, students complain about yoga TTCs) are always about the food. The lack of variety and the same meals every day.

You cannot keep healthy and strong by eating the same 3 choices of food every day.

Their approach is different. The founder lives in Bali and has done so for a number of years. It is because of his relationship and respect for the Balinese people and its culture, that the founder has been able to negotiate great accommodation, and food packages. They want you to have more control over where you spend your money. More control over your budget.

All of these savings combined result in you having complete accommodation and RYT 200 inclusive package, well below what the other RYS’s are charging just for their course alone.

They believe that you need a healthy balanced diet and to eat the food that you love during daily intensive physical activity. They feel that in order for you to completely immerse yourself and experience the many benefits during your time with them in Bali, it is important that you eat well, sleep well, and feel well. Together these 3 elements translate into you practicing yoga very well and having the most amazing time during your Bali 200-hour RYT yoga course. There is nothing worse than not enjoying the food menu options provided and being in an isolated location.

It would be impossible for them to provide you with food options to suit every palate. They would only be able to offer predictable, repetitive, protein-deficient, and limited food menu options, as other schools already offer.

The following meals are included:

  • Drinks

The following drinks are included:

  • Water

The following dietary requirement(s) are served and/or catered for:

  • Vegetarian
If you have special dietary requirements it's a good idea to communicate it to the organiser when making a reservation

Things to do (optional)

Go surfing in Kuta

If you haven’t surfed before or are just looking for some gentle waves then you have to come to the most famous beach in Bali which is Kuta Beach. The beach sits across from a sandbar which means it has rolling surf that is free of any sharp reefs and you can rent a board here and sign up for a surf lesson, or rent a bodyboard if you want to try something a little less strenuous. Locals and visitors alike come here to watch the sunset and you can relax on the sand with a cold beer and drink in the atmosphere.

Visit Ulun Danu Temple

Ulun Danu Temple lies at the edge of Baratan Lake in Bedugul in Bali. This pretty building is dedicated to the goddess of the lake and is one of the quietest and most serene places on the island. Make sure to check out all the different shrines, each one dedicated to a different god, and look out for the ornate architectural touches such as the intricately carved gates.

Have fun at Bali Treetop Adventure Park

If you want an adrenaline-packed afternoon then make your way to Bali Treetop Adventure Park where you will find a range of rides surrounded by lush forests. The park is great for families as well as groups or couples and has rides for children as young as 4 years old. There is a range of different circuits that are located high up in the trees and there are nets, swings, and flying foxes galore that let you fly through the air and take in the breathtaking views over the forest canopy.

Have lunch at Bebek Bengil in Ubud

Bebek Bengil means the ‘Dirty Duck’ in Indonesian and is one of the best-loved restaurants in Ubud. The restaurant backs onto a pretty rice field and the main specialty here is the duck which comes in a variety of different dishes.

The signature style here is the Bebek betutu which is boiled in a broth made with aromatic herbs and then rubbed with local spices. The duck is then fried until it is crispy and the skin is blistered and then served with some simple rice and vegetables.

Go muck diving in Padang Bai

Padang Bai is situated in the east of Bali and is most famous for its diving. There are seven different dive sites that can easily be reached after a short boat trip from the shore and whatever your diving experience there is something for everyone here.

You can get PADI certified and if you like muck diving then this is one of the best places to do it in Bali and you will find a range of underwater critters like the blue-ringed octopus and pygmy seahorses. There is also a good chance of seeing sharks, turtles, and waving fans and coral gardens.

Experience the culture in Ubud

Ubud is widely known as the cultural heartland of Bali so if you like art then this is the place to come. Ubud sits amongst gorgeous rolling rice paddies and if filled with art galleries like Neka Art Museum which gives you a glimpse of the evolution of art in Bali. You can also find galleries dedicated to jewelry, ceramics, and sculpture and you can buy arts and crafts souvenirs all over Ubud.

Go snorkeling in Amed

If you are looking for a quieter corner of Bali undisturbed by the crowds of tourists who flock here then Amed is a great choice. This part of the island is still relatively off the radar and is not exactly a town, but rather a collection of villages strung together next to the sea. The reason many people come here is for snorkeling and diving as the visibility is excellent and you can dive relatively cheap compared to other parts of Bali.

Watch a Kecak dance

Bali is famous for its dances and one of these is the Kecak dance which was developed in the 1930s. The dance takes its name from the ‘cak’ sound that is repeated throughout and is based on the story of the Hindu epic called the Ramayana. You can watch performances of the dance all over the island and many shows take place outside under the stars. Recommended tour: Bali Sunset: Uluwatu Temple, Kecak Dance, and Jimbaran Bay

Explore the paddy fields of Tabanan

Those looking for something a little different in Bali can head to the area of Tabanan which is covered in lush rice paddies that sparkle with an emerald hue under the sun.

The big draw here is that in addition to checking out the scenery you can also get involved and learn how rice is grown and harvested in Bali. If you are feeling adventurous you can get knee-deep in mud in paddy and pick some of your own.

Spend time with the monkeys at Monkey Forest

Monkey Forest is a Hindu temple complex in Ubud and also one of its main attractions. The complex is full of over 500 monkeys and the three temples that still stand here date from the 14th century.

The entire area is a nature reserve and you can walk around and take in the scenery as well as take photographs of the monkeys. You can buy bananas to feed the primates from the main entrance but beware if you have anything else on you like sunglasses or water bottles the monkeys have been known to grab what they can from visitors.
