Course information

The training prepares you to teach with skill, authenticity, and confidence. They educate and empower students through the timeless system of yoga while co-creating an inclusive global community of people who inspire positive change. They invite you to join in. This immersion is for you if you want to:

  • Get certified to teach yoga professionally
  • Enjoy a yoga immersion for personal development and enrichment
  • Learn safe and correct alignment of yoga postures, for your own personal practice and to teach others
  • Understand how to create, sequence, and guide yoga classes with skill and confidence
  • Enhance your knowledge and understanding of yoga fundamentals beyond the physical practice
  • Find guidance, consistency, and support in your mediation practice (or learn mediation for the first time)
  • Deepen your relationship with yoga to cultivate health, well-being, and the inspiration to share it in your community - all while making new, like-minded contacts and life-long friends in a beautiful setting nourished by decadent gourmet vegetarian cuisine

Many of the students have been practicing for years and now feel called to teach, while others are new to yoga and want to cultivate a strong foundation by learning important aspects that are often overlooked in standard classes, in person or online. Some are going through life transitions (in-between jobs, sabbatical or gap year, divorce or break-ups, pre- or post-academia, kids are grown-up, etc.) and have the opportunity to do something enriching for themselves. Most people come on their own, yet some come with a friend, partner, or family member.

There are no prerequisites or requirements to join the program. Whatever your background and experience may be, they invite you to continue your journey with them and explore all that the Lakshmi Rising community has to offer. The students range in age from 17 to 75 and come from all around the world, many are not native English speakers. They welcome all shapes, sizes, gender identities, colors, abilities, and levels of experience. An open mind is the only requirement. There is an extreme range in the knowledge, understanding, and experience that each person shows up with

They meet you where you are. Within each group, it is advantageous to have all levels of fitness, diverse abilities, and physical limitations so that you can understand together how to adapt the practice to meet the needs of each unique individual. The more variety you have within each group, the more you learn. You emphasize accessibility and an individualized approach to yoga. You do not need to do fancy poses to be a great teacher. The total group size ranges from 16 to 20 students.

Some, like you, are taking the 200-hour training for the first time while others have already completed a foundational course and are participating in the next level (300-hour) program which runs concurrently. There is a different percentage of 200 and 300-hour participants on every training. One of the many benefits of this mixed-level approach is that some of the higher-level classes designed for students with more experience will be optional for you to attend if you so desire.

Location

In-person training

Nestled high in the charming hills of Loulé, in the Algarve region, the onsite training is a tranquil refuge, far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life. While it offers the privacy and serenity you crave on a program, the three-acre (12,000 square meters) gated estate is perfectly situated to balance seclusion with accessibility. Surrounded by stunning coastal views and a rejuvenating natural environment, this is the ideal destination for your experience.

Conveniently located near authentic Portuguese towns, picturesque beaches, and a variety of outdoor activities, our private villa allows you to explore the Algarve’s breathtaking landscapes. Whether you are seeking cultural excursions or simply time to reconnect with yourself, the location makes it all possible.

Food

During the residential training, daily healthy meals, snacks, coffee, and tea are included in the price. Nutrition is more than just feeding the physical body. Food is essential on so many levels and that is why Lakshmi Rising has chosen Gaia Gourmet Cuisine to cater to all of the international retreats and yoga teacher training. This incredible cuisine nourishes every aspect of your being - supporting, nourishing, and cleansing your body, mind, and spirit along your journey. The talented plant-based chef creates three unforgettable Gaia gourmet vegetarian or vegan meals per day inspired by the world’s greatest cuisines.

Healthy organic food is artistically crafted to please all of the senses. Meals are designed around the seasons using Ayurvedic principles while incorporating the best and freshest local ingredients, herbs, and spices. They procure and serve all organic produce from local family farms. The meals are well-balanced and prepared with love. This positive energy is infused into the food, aiding the digestion process. It is important that you are well-fed and completely nourished from the inside out when you join this training.

With a vegetarian-based menu (and vegan and gluten-free options available), you will be provided plenty of protein by using legumes, seeds and nuts, artisan cheeses, and eggs from free-ranging chickens. They only use whole grains and natural sweeteners. With an ever-expanding orchard of over 300 tropical fruit trees, the freshly picked organic fruits make great complements to your dining experience. Overall, this will produce a more lively healthy body and mind and is the most environmentally friendly diet.

They always do their best to accommodate food allergies. They can omit certain items from dishes, such as cheese, dairy, and nuts. They cannot guarantee a completely gluten-free or nut-free environment. Persons with serious food allergies such as Celiac disease or those on a 100% raw food diet should not attend a retreat. The organizer must know of all serious food issues at least three weeks prior to arrival. Bring an open mind and allow your taste buds to savor this unique culinary adventure.

Lakshmi Rising School for Yoga & Wellness has three optional group excursions that have been carefully selected to educate the group about local Portuguese health and wellness culture. You will have two days to venture out and explore the local culture after your morning practice and a nourishing breakfast. Because the weather is beautiful all year long, outdoor activities like beach exploration and hiking are enjoyable every month.

Loulé, Portugal, is a beautiful location with plenty of options for all-day excursions and local activities, especially if you are looking to balance your yoga teacher training with some exploration and relaxation. Loulé has a famous Saturday morning open-air farmers market and boutique ateliers where local artisans use traditional methods to forge copper, weave palms into lampshades and accessories, craft ceramics, and more.

In and around Loulé you can also find various food tours and tastings, including Quinta da Tôr winery. Other suggestions include a visit to explore the vibrant town of Albufeira with its beautiful beaches, lively old town, and stunning cliffs. You can also take a boat tour to see the famous Benagil Cave and other coastal formations.

Another option for nature lovers is to Ria Formosa Natural Park where you can spend a day exploring this stunning coastal lagoon, a haven for birdwatchers, where you can take a boat tour, go kayaking, or simply enjoy the beautiful beaches and wildlife.
