Syllabus

Throughout the duration of the course, you will extensively study:

Asana (postures)

Through intensive practice and study, you will explore refinement and precision within your personal practice as well as how to share that detailed approach with your students.

Meditation

Through daily practice of both guided and silent meditations and discussion of various techniques, you will delve deep into the practice, how it relates to the yogic lifestyle, and how to incorporate it into your daily lives.

Anatomy and physiology

You’ll briefly explore the fascinating human body and look at how your physical anatomy applies to the Restorative yoga practice and how to modify and adapt your teachings to keep students safe and aware. And through experiential and interactive learning, you’ll have fun as you assess and understand the physiological effects of the Restorative practice on the body, breath, and mind.

Alignment and pose modifications

You will carefully dissect many common poses within the Restorative yoga practice to explore alignment in depth. You will also discuss how to modify and adjust poses for students with injuries, pregnancy, or lack of mobility.

History and philosophy of Restorative yoga

You will explore the birth of Restorative yoga and its evolution and growth throughout the years. You will also discuss the philosophical side of this practice and how it can apply to your everyday life.

Pranayama (breathwork)

Through experiential practice and discussion, you will learn about the practice of controlling and regulating the breath (pranayama). You will discuss the many benefits of this practice and how to effectively practice, teach, and share it.

Mantra (chants)

Through experiential practice and discussion, you will learn about the practice of chanting (mantra). You will discuss the many benefits of this practice and how to effectively practice, teach, and share it.

Sequencing Restorative yoga classes

You will discuss theming, the different elements essential to a well-structured class, linking postures, intelligent sequencing, and beyond so you can walk away feeling confident to teach.

Teaching methodology

Of course, you will study the art of teaching Restorative in its many facets—exploring the ideas of what makes a good yoga teacher, how to skillfully use language, how to effectively sequence practices, how to concisely cue poses, and much, much more—so that you will feel secure and confident as a Restorative teacher. And, of course, you will have the opportunity numerous times to explore these concepts in reality as you put the art of teaching Restorative into practice.

You will also be provided with a detailed and robust digital PDF training manual to follow along with throughout the course. You will have access to the recorded practices and lectures to return to anytime that you feel you need a refresher throughout the training. This training would take a minimum of 10 days to complete with no maximum time period.

Timing of sessions

There will be a private one-on-one session for you to meet with your teacher to discuss your progress, questions, and/or concerns. One-on-ones will be scheduled to fit your time zone and availability throughout the course.
