About the training
Their goal is to ensure that you feel confident teaching classical Hatha, Vinyasa, and Yin yoga classes upon completion of this course.
They also explore a variety of yoga styles during the program and create a space to find "your" style of yoga to share. The course is primarily based on classic Hatha yoga as a foundation to expand from. You spend time sequencing both slower stretches to more vigorous flows to help you find your niche.
You tap into a little Kundalini yoga, Yin yoga, dance yoga, and more. The intensive program looks like this: Monday to Friday, with a half day on Saturday, finishing after lunch at 14:00, and Sundays are your days off. Students are given PDF manuals for Asana and the program course manual.
18 nights are included, all meals except Thursday and Saturday evenings and Sundays. It is a day off to explore some local cuisine. Or rest and study.
Your airport pick-up is included, to ensure you feel welcome and safe when you arrive, their driver will be waiting with a sign with your name on it, upon arrival. The team is very dedicated and devoted to making sure all the students feel comfortable from arrival until check-out, ensuring that they are working at their own pace, and understanding the material. Pranayama or breathing techniques
Learn to direct, enhance, and build a life force. Study energy locks and channels, Bandahs, and Nadis.
Meditation and mantra yoga
Finding peace through meditation helps you learn how to help guide others to focus and quiet the mind. Various meditation styles and techniques will be covered during the program. Mantra yoga: the yoga of sound.
Anatomy and physiology
Human anatomy and physiology, body planes, body alignment, body systems, the spine, injuries, disease, physical effects of yoga, both benefits and risks, anatomy, and physiology application in asana. The fascia and the muscle or skeletal systems are the main focus of the study. The energy bodies: Chakras, Nadis, and Ayurveda will also be covered in anatomy and physiology.
Yogic history and philosophy
The eight-limb path of yoga and the Yoga Sutras are the primary sources of study. Influential yogis, Sanskrit, ancient yogic texts, and the evolution of yoga from pre-classical to modern-day yoga will be explored.
Teaching practicum and methodology
Class creation, class sequencing, adjusting, aligning, demonstrating, cueing, guiding, reading your class, ethics of a yoga teacher, enhancements, modifications, corrections, and variations. Language, Sanskrit, instructing various levels, groups, special health needs, injuries, benefits, and trauma sensitivity yoga. There will be opportunities to teach in a supportive and nurturing environment throughout the program.

The Yoga Mat School is located in central Lamai, on the beautiful famous Lamai Beach, on the magical island of Koh Samui in Thailand. Koh Samui, Thailand’s second largest island, lies in the Gulf of Thailand off the east coast of the Kra Isthmus. It's known for its palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves, and dense, mountainous rainforest. Koh Samui offers incredible beaches, endless activities, and entertainment as well as beautiful Buddhist temples and statues of all sizes.
Thai food is out of this world, but if you want something else for dinner, a plethora of cuisines are available. Or you can visit one of the countless night markets to sample delicious bites and buy some souvenirs. A five-minute walk to Lamai Center, one of the main cities on the Island. And they are just 10 minutes ride to Chaweng, the largest city on the island.

There is nothing to stop you from having a blast on Samui Island. For those interested in religious imagery and architecture the Big Buddha will impress, especially at sunset. Nature lovers can also visit Ang Thong Marine National Park on a day trip to enjoy a genuine 'get away from it all' feel in the splendid tropical islands it hosts.

You will visit three beautiful spots on the island, to enjoy your half day off, Saturday morning practice with your Thai Hostess and 500-hour yoga teacher, Panita, at the Na Mauang Waterfall, Lam Soe Temple, and Lamai Beach.
On your day off, you may want to take a snorkel or scuba trip or book a tour of another island in a traditional Thai long boat. Visit the night markets, good markets, and night shows with the Famous Lady Boys. Maybe take a trip to the beautiful island of Koh Phangan for their famous Full Moon Party. Enjoy all the beautiful beaches of Samui, the delicious foods, and the friendliest people on Earth, who nearly all speak English.
Rent a car or scooter to take a full-day trip around the island or hire a driver and car. Visit the elephant and dog sanctuaries of Samui, The Historic Coconut Plantations, The Big Buddha, and so much more. The Yoga Mat School can help with all your exploration of The Land of Smiles.

Driving directions from Koh Samui Ring Road 4169
- Take road 4173 at the Namuang Waterfall intersection.
- Follow the road for 3 kilometers until the 4-way intersection at Ban Thale.
- Then turn right onto road 4170 towards Laem Sor Pagoda or Thong Krut.
- Continue for approximately 1 kilometer.
- Then turn left where you see signs for Mor Din restaurant, Easy time resort, and Samahita Retreat.
- After 700 meters, you will arrive at the end of the road on the beach and the location of Samahita Retreat.
- The reception is right on the beach while the guest accommodations are the opposite of the beach.
Arrival by bus
Take the bus from Bangkok to Surat Thani. Then, take the ferry to Koh Samui. This is the cheapest way to get from Bangkok to Koh Samui. No reservations are required, just show up at the bus station and you should be on a bus heading south within the hour. The bus will take you directly to the ferry terminal. Be sure to buy a bus and ferry combo ticket.
Arrival by train
Trains for Surathani (which actually stop in Phun Phin, 14 kilometers west of Surathani) leave from Bangkok's Hualamphong station. The 6:20 p.m. (rapid) and the 7:15 p.m. (express) trains are most convenient, as they arrive at 05:28 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., allowing you plenty of time to catch an 8:00 a.m. boat to Koh Samui.
