Program
Pre-application requirements
CC's Hideaway welcomes practitioners with different levels of experience, through a personal application process. You need to be 18 and above, in good health, and understand and speak English. If you are relatively new to yoga, please be aware that it is a teacher training program, not an introductory yoga course. Still, with realistic expectations, you are welcome.
Certification
Students who complete the training will receive the Andaman Yoga Academy Yoga Teacher Certificate.
How the training works
The residential training is preceded by two mandatory, self-paced online courses: 20 hours of yoga anatomy and 15 hours of yoga philosophy. There are no live online sessions. You should ideally complete the online programs before the residential program. You will get access to both courses immediately after your first deposit payment. They recommend that you plan for a minimum of one month to complete the online courses. For yoga anatomy, 20 hours of self-paced studies include pre-recorded video material, quizzes, and in-depth reflective questions.
The content is 100% related to yoga and a deep, practical understanding of the body's workings. There will also be reading tasks, and you need to buy a book to support the online lessons: David Keil, Functional Anatomy of Yoga. For yoga philosophy, 15 hours of self-paced studies include pre-recorded video lectures of which four hours are on-the-mat explorations of philosophical themes. In-depth reflective questions should be answered after each study chapter and sent in for review via email. The content focuses on applying yogic philosophical concepts and principles in real life and is highly self-reflective.
Everyone aspiring to become a yoga teacher with AYA starts with online preparation courses, where you will learn about the anatomy of the body and nervous system about yoga and the underlying history and philosophy on which yoga is based. During weeks one and two of the residential training, you will learn the basics of teaching yoga, focusing on tools rather than style or pace, in an informed and safe manner. Guiding principles are mindfulness, alignment, and room for individual variations.
The foundation program aims to gain skills to guide groups through classes at beginner and intermediate levels, including breathing, relaxation, and meditation techniques. You will explore the energy approach to yoga based on Hatha as well as introduce the art of creating flow and skillful sequencing. During week three, you will advance your skills in Vinyasa yoga, both as a practitioner and a teacher. The focus will be on energizing and uplifting postures, more tools for Vinyasa-style sequence building, and breathing in motion.
You will sharpen your skills to structure a class, to cue visually, and verbally as well as using hands-on, and to maintain rhythm and flow in your teaching. This week will also include an in-depth exploration of chanting mantras as a meditation method, focusing on the vibrations of the voice and pronunciation of Sanskrit words and phrases. Once the residential and online content is completed, you will get your certificates.
