Eva.yoga invites you to take part in this online Restorative yoga teacher training course with Eva Maxine Hamilton to learn more about Restorative yoga and build a more dedicated and knowledgeable self-practice if you are not a teacher or not interested in teaching or get a full 30 hours of CE credits for yourself to start building your teaching experience if you are in your first steps of teaching professionally.
There are no pre-requisites for this yoga teacher training course. Just a love of Restorative yoga and experience practicing this style. You will need to find a spot in your home that is generally quiet with a good Wi-Fi signal. You will need a device (laptop, tablet, or phone) to access Zoom and Teachable. Just a basic Zoom account will do. You can film your final practicum on your phone, no professional equipment necessary. Your textbook is a digital file and you can choose to print it or not.
For your yoga props, please prepare a yoga mat and ideally two bolster pillows, four blocks, four blankets, and a strap. This seems like a lot but having these at your fingertips will allow you to learn the dreamiest Restorative poses. At minimum, grab a bolster, some bed pillows, two blocks and some thick books, and lots of comfy blankets from around your house. You may also like an eye pillow, a small hand towel, and sand bad, but these are optional bonuses. You will also use a chair and some wall space at times since some poses will require that for support.
The course/hours count as Continuing Education hours for Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®) only.
The course will be facilitated as a four-day immersion, divided over two-weekends so most can attend without requiring time away from life's commitments (April 10th, 11th, 17th, and 18th). On training weekends, each day will include six hours of yoga teacher training (five hours of lectures, closing with a one-hour guided Restorative practice). Mid-day, you can relax for an hour and a half break. In between your two-course weekends, you will also enjoy three mid-week Restorative practices designed to help you experience all the benefits of this offering.
Your textbook, lesson plan, pose tutorials, guided practices, and additional content will be available on Teachable. Teachable is a professional education platform where eva.yoga designs your daily schedule. This system will be your course companion, which you will have access to for the next six months following your training dates. As you open each class, you will find the live Zoom links to connect with your class directly. Live lectures (five hours daily) will be delivered live via Zoom to allow a more interactive learning experience.
The only section not delivered live is your guided Restorative practices. Before the course, they will check in with each student individually to make sure they are set up and have easy access to the tech. These systems are very user friendly and you will be fully supported. All of the live calls are recorded and added to Teachable after the sessions. If you get logged out or have any issues, you can access all lectures later to get caught up.
Your presence on the calls is still mandatory for certification, but you can just send them a message to let them know if you are having any challenges and they will do their best to support you. You will receive a very comprehensive textbook written and compiled by Eva. There will be a daily quiz, final exam and all students must submit a class plan and short video of their teaching. You will complete 27 hours of training together. These assignments are accounted for as your final three hours of training.
If you select the course certification option, they will review your exam, class plan, and practicum and supply you with some support and personalized feedback. In this process, they will take time to give you thoughtful tips, helping you to refine your skills and grow as a teacher. Once they have reviewed your three assignments, they will send you your certificate. Please note, it is of extreme importance to them to maintain high standards of yoga education and they will not sell the certification or accreditation hours. You must complete your final assignments to demonstrate safe and beneficial teaching of course principles.
Restorative yoga is a profound experience of relaxation. At the surface of the pose, there is a lack of activity. Each shape is generously supported with props and held without effort for an extended time. Their focus is not even on stretching, but on opening the body by releasing tension into spacious comfort. Yet, as the practitioner descends into a restful state, the blissful comfort of the pose becomes a catalyst for a transformational process. Restorative yoga facilitates the recalibration of your nervous systems.
It shifts you from a dull but constant state of stress (your sympathetic or fight, flight, or freeze response), towards a more healing and integrative state (your parasympathetic or rest and digest response). The subtle vibrations of stress below the walls of your skin grow gradually more quiet as your breath and heart rate grows steady and calm. The down-regulation supports your digestive and immune systems as the whole body rebalances in rest. The support is not just experienced on the level of physicality, but mentally and emotionally that support is felt as well. You will become whole.
Your physical tensions also dissolve with time and awareness and after Shavasana the body might feel as if it has been satisfyingly stretched, however, you never lengthened muscle or overly extended your joints. This practice is ideal for processing and releasing the stress of modern life. In this way, Restorative yoga is helpful to all people and is an accessible practice for students of all levels of experience or fitness.
But Restorative yoga is particularly beneficial for students who may struggle in other styles of yoga - students with stress, chronic pain, fatigue, digestive issues, poor immune function, and even those recovering from a severe injury. Perhaps one of the most important applications of Restorative yoga is supporting students with generalized anxiety disorders, who may find that a regular Restorative yoga practice can help them to re-pattern their stress responses.
While Restorative yoga may seem easy because it requires the least physical effort and accommodates the body with as much support as possible, they have often witnessed many individuals who move with ease through Vinyasa flow, but really struggle to access that same state of being in relaxation. Through this practice, you learn that true relaxation is a skill to be cultivated and a doorway to wellbeing.
