Program

The 200-hour Peru Yoga Teacher Training is designed to harness the unique energy that emerges when like-minded souls gather from around the world in the sacred lands of Peru. This training integrates the ancient wisdom of the East with the powerful Medicine Wheel of Peru, guiding students through a transformative journey of personal growth.

Yoga Teacher Training Peru courses are created for those who are called to become a yoga teacher and experience healing medicine of the Andes and Amazon, and are limited to a 15 person maximum. It is within this sacred course you will experience daily meditation, yoga, spiritual lessons, Kirtan, Temescal, and ceremonies with Andean shamans (Quero, Ayamara).

This yoga teacher training is structured in four cycles, each aligned with the four cardinal directions, allowing participants to connect deeply with the guardian spirits of the land. These cycles guide students through phases of release, understanding, growth, and empowerment, fostering a space where inner wisdom is revealed, and life purpose is accelerated.

Mystical Yoga, which forms the foundation of the program invites students to delve deep into the roots of ancient spiritual practices. This immersive experience over 21 days allows participants to explore the union (yoga) between themselves and the world around them. What makes SYI unique

What a potent time in the world to feel the call to become a yoga teacher! The journey begins right here and right now – searching the internet for a unique experience that sparks your destiny’s curiosity. You are here for a reason. They offer experiences that gift students with so much more than just a certification.

Transformational ceremonies

The school is deeply influenced by the Peruvian Medicine Wheel, which is a key reason many consider SYI to be much more than a traditional yoga teacher training. The program offers a spiritually guided journey that extends far beyond asana, the physical postures of yoga.

Through the wisdom of the Peruvian Medicine Wheel and sacred ceremonies, students are guided to explore the shadows of the past, uncovering how personal patterns shape current experiences and perceptions. This process fosters the development of powerful inner tools and supports the rewriting of limiting narratives, paving the way for lasting transformation and a renewed outlook on life.

World-class facilitators

The yoga facilitators are a vital part of what makes the program exceptional. Just like the course offerings, they come from all around the world. Each facilitator is highly experienced, has completed a 500-hour yoga teacher training, and brings a unique blend of wisdom, presence, and perspective. Their contributions are foundational to the depth and quality of the training.

Visionary team

The heart of the team shines through in everything they do. Those who have emailed, called, or reached out with questions have likely connected with Keri Pennell, co-owner and operator of the program. Alongside co-owner and facilitator Jed, Keri brings deep dedication and care to every student’s journey. Affectionately known as the "Mystical Mama," Keri is a vegan chef, wife, and mother of four, whose welcoming and inspiring leadership helps shape the spirit of the community. She is supported by a passionate and visionary team committed to the mission of SYI.

Sustainable living

School Yoga Institute partners with numerous international locations that share a strong commitment to sustainability. In alignment with these values, efforts are made to offset emissions during travel. Throughout the yoga teacher training, students are offered the knowledge, tools, and opportunities to reflect on the impact of their current lifestyles and are introduced to practices for more sustainable living.

Things to do (optional)

Local Peru activities

  • Hike in the surrounding sacred mountains
  • Visiting sacred ruins (Incan and pre)
  • Visit indigenous villages in the Sacred Valley
  • Machu Picchu excursion

Please note that due to the very full curriculum, those wishing to spend more time connecting with the land, visiting sacred sites (such as Machu Picchu) should plan to have additional days before or after the training to do this! If time is limited, it will be possible to make an early trip to visit Macchu Picchu on a day off if preferred.

School Yoga Institute suggests that you go before or after the training so you do not feel rushed. For those planning to go to Machu Picchu during the training, they suggest that you schedule your trip for your first day off, that way you can go with your yogi friends (otherwise it is good to plan to go to Machu Picchu either before or after the training).

For example, Machu Picchu tickets should be purchased as soon as possible! Train tickets (around 70 USD each way) can be purchased online through Peru Rail. It is recommended that you leave Ollantaytambo for Machu Picchu around 6 or 7 a.m. and return around 5 or 6 p.m. There is also a bus ticket that brings you from the train drop off point in Aguas Calientes up to Machu Picchu (around 17 USD round trip), but this is purchased onsite the day of your trip.

  • Plant medicine ceremonies

Please note that during the training there will be optional sacred plant medicine ceremonies offered on your days off with Ayahuasca and San Pedro. These ceremonies are not offered by School Yoga Institute, are optional, and not associated with the course. For more information please contact School Yoga Institute.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM). From Lima, you can book a short flight to Cuzco, Peru. You will meet others in Cuzco so you can go to the venue together.

From Cusco, you can get a colectivo (from Puputi) that goes to Calca. From Calca, arrange a taxi to Sacha Munay (you will pass Urco, three little towns and arrive to Arin, just before Huaran). Go up the dirt road and veer left, soon you will see a small yellow church, make a right at the church, then make a left at the next turn, continue till you pass a cemetery on the left, keep going to the end of the road for Sach’a Munay (on the right). Please note that a high clearance vehicle is recommended for arriving.

It is recommended that you fly in a few days early if possible to acclimatize, although you will not meet School Yoga Institute staff members until noon on the first day of the training. The Sacred Valley is a bit lower in elevation than Cusco so it can also be a good idea to fly to Cusco then go directly to Pisaq for a day or two, then arrive to Cusco to meet the group. It can take up to five days to start to feel fully acclimatized.

On the first day of the training, there will be an optional yoga class from 4 to 5:30 p.m. You will have dinner at 5:30 followed by opening ceremony. On the last day of the training, you will finish by 10 a.m. (an afternoon flight from Cusco on the last day is possible for those with tight travel schedules).

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 25% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 30 days before arrival.
