Students who complete their subsequent trainings are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®).

The aim of this teacher training course is to create a solid basis for you in order to help you pursue a career as a certified yoga teacher. The training focuses on quality in all aspects, ranging from accommodation, a healthy diet, and the team of experienced teachers.

The course covers a wide range of topics including the 65 asanas, the five basic meditation techniques, three types of pranayamas, shatkarma, body alignment techniques, how to teach individual and group sessions, yoga business ethics, setting up a yoga school, holistic approach to learning therapeutic yoga teaching, and many others.

Rishikesh Nath Yogshala follows a curriculum that is in compliance with the international standards of Yoga Alliance coupled with the expertise of renowned yoga gurus. The prime aim of this course is to teach physical and spiritual practices that lay down the foundation to become a well rounded and successful yoga teacher. The main five modules of the course include yoga teaching techniques, teaching methodology and yogic lifestyle, philosophy, anatomy, and physiology, as well as practice.

Yoga teaching techniques

The yoga teaching techniques cover principles such as asana, pranayama, shatkarma, bandhas, mudras, meditation techniques, and mantra and chanting. Asana is the yoga postures, pranayama is the breathing techniques, shatkarma is the cleansing techniques, bandhas is the locking of energy, and mudras is the channeling of energy. You will also learn the benefits and contraindications of the yoga asanas which are the pranic energy channels of the body, the pancha koshas (sheath), the five elements of universe, and the seven chakras.

Teaching methodology

The objective and aim of this module is to learn the art of teaching as well as the business and marketing aspects of yoga. This is done by cultivating good quality teaching like timing, class planning, intonation of voice, asana sequence, and the art of adjustment. The trainer will be refining your qualities to teach in small and big groups of students.

Anatomy and physiology

The lessons will include the study of anatomy and physiology. The module will focus on general movement and human body terms as well as the systems of the body such as the respiratory system, the muscular system, the endocrine, and the nervous system.

Yoga philosophy, lifestyle, and ethics for yoga teachers

You will learn the definition of yoga, yogic diet and life style, paths of yoga (Jjnana, Raja, Bhakti, and Karma yoga), biography of important yogis, the eight limbs of Patanjali yoga sutras, study of ancient text (Bhagavad Gita), and Ayurveda.

Week 1

During this first week, you will learn alignment, anatomy, and physiology which are the main building blocks for a good knowledge of movements. Yoga-specific anatomy and physiology skills classes will also be during this week. In detail, you will learn the movement and support of the individual asanas that accompany you in your practice. Look forward to intensive functional and practical anatomy.

Week 2

During this week, you will be focusing on Vinyasa in terms of hour construction. Vinyasa is the movement of life. Everything is in motion and everything is in change. Everyone has already experienced how life goes up and down. There is never a phase in life that lasts forever. At some point, a time for the change of the life phase comes. How does this particular turn? Which movement sequences make sense and which less? Your breathing and your movements are coordinated and the connections are illuminated in all facets. Rejoice in flowing hours and be open to change.

Week 3

One of the most important and valuable tools for you as a yoga teacher is the tactile correction technique, adjustment. In this training week, you will learn in a structured and tactful manner, how to correct your students. Look forward to a variety of adjustment techniques to many asanas and gain safety and competence for your lessons.

Week 4

In this training week, you will learn to use the different tools efficiently. Your tone, body language, and content from the previous classes in adjustment, alignment, and Vinyasa will be brought to the fore for you and illuminated. You will learn to stand in front of a group and teach. The last week will consist of the exam days; 90-minutes written exam and practical exams on how to teach a group of students.

The pillars of Rishikesh Nath Yogshala

Ashtanga yoga

Also called the yoga of the eight members that adheres to eight precepts which are prohibitions or abstinence, rules or observations, posture, breath control, sense control, concentration, meditation, and contemplation or meditation deeper. It is ideal to eliminate stress, to correct addictions, and learn to control themselves and demanding personalities.

Iyengar yoga

It works with great verbal influence by teachers and objects that are usually used for different positions. To perform it, it requires a lot of attention and concentration. It is ideal for those who wish to correct their postures and make efficient work with constant supervision of a professional in this kind of yoga.

One of the features of Iyengar yoga consists of a focused body alignment in each posture practice. Another feature is that it uses about 200 traditional asanas and pranayama exercises, 14 sequences grouped into certain categories depending on the level of each student.

Hatha yoga

Yoga is a part of the physical needed to benefit mental health. It focuses on body postures and has great preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitation ability of injuries. Currently, much emphasis is placed on the relaxation of the body by linking with the mind. Therefore, it is ideal for people in the rehabilitation of injuries, contractures, or bad postures that generate unwanted ailments.

Japa yoga or yoga mantras

Mantra is a word, syllable, or phrase that is repeated mentally, sung, or spoken in high voza. The use of mantras is intended to focus the mind and get into harmony with the body. Japa yoga is ideal for people sensitive to sound vibrations and seeking to withdraw from a noisy existence.

Dos and don'ts (yamas and niyamas)

  • During the tenure of training, consumption of drugs, drinks, and smoking is prohibited. This is the new beginning of life and thus, you need to leave all the negativity outside.
  • If you have undergone any surgery process or injuries recently then let Rishikesh Nath Yogshala know in advance. If you are suffering from food allergy or disease then also report it to the mentors or the management team.
  • Though Rishikesh Nath Yogshala tries to keep the environment very much encouraging and safe from the perspective of health and safety of the learners, any injuries caused during the course of treatment are not affiliated to the teachers or the school. It is the responsibility of the students themselves.
  • You are suggested to take care of your luggage and belongings additionally. Though Rishikesh Nath Yogshala will make proper arrangements to give you privacy and protection in the institute.
  • Students need to be on time in classes and acquire at least 90% of attendance to achieve the certification. Missing classes, except for emergency cases, needs to be completed.
  • It is highly recommended to keep the accommodation as well as common areas as clean and hygienic as possible. The retreat center maintains high standards when it comes to cleanliness.
  • Students are expected to hold respectful behavior and friendly attitude towards the teachers, staff, and colleagues.
  • It is best to attend regular classes for best insights and devote yourself to the healing process. You can enjoy the weekends outside as well.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). You may rent a car or catch a taxi from the airport.

You may book another flight to the nearest domestic airport near Rishikesh, which is Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport (DED). Transfer from and to this airport is included. Rishikesh Nath Yogshala will pick you up from the airport.

Arrival by bus

From Delhi, the city of Rishikesh is about 230 kilometers away and is well connected by buses. A bus journey may take about five to seven hours, depending on the traffic, and it costs you about 130 to 350 INR. A bus with air conditioning will cost about 250,700 INR. In Rishikesh, there are several travel agencies scattered around Swarg Ashram and Lakshman Jhula that can book luxury buses to common destinations like Delhi, Jaipur, Pushkar, and Varanasi.

Arrival by train

A quiet branch line connects Rishikesh to Haridwar, but there are only about three slow trains daily. It is better to take the train to Haridwar and continue by bus from there, which will take 45 minutes and cost 30 INR; by taxi, it will take 30 minutes and cost 800 INR; or by autorickshaw, taking 40 minutes and 500 INR.

However, traveling by train is recommended in peak seasons or during a 'mela’ (fair) when bus routes are diverted in Haridwar, whereas trains often run empty and the fares are low at just 4 INR for a passenger train service.

You can take shared rickshaws (vehicle brand name Vikram) towards Lakshman Jhula for 15 INR from Rishikesh station. You will have to cross Ram Jhula to reach Swarg Ashram on the other side of the River Ganga. There are many trains from Delhi to Haridwar. Some of the better options are Shatabadi Express, Jan Shatabdi, AC Special Express, and Mussoorie Express.
