Homestay-Style Accommodations at Blue Lake Sanctuary
This training takes place in a unique homestay environment at your instructor Peggy Profant’s personal residence—a place lovingly cultivated over years as a sanctuary for yoga, learning, and community.
The Blue Lake Sanctuary is not a retreat center, but a heart-centered home designed for deep practice, featuring radiant heated floors, forest views, and a cozy wood-burning stove. Being invited into your teacher’s home creates a special opportunity to live yoga in daily rhythm—immersed in real connection, shared meals, and intentional community.
You’ll share kitchen, bathrooms, and living spaces with fellow participants. Everyone contributes to keeping the space clean, respectful, and nourishing—an integral part of our practice together.
Each day, you’ll enjoy a fresh, healthy vegetarian lunch, and you’re welcome to join their beloved Community Dinner Club, where we take turns preparing and sharing home-cooked meals in the evenings—often a highlight of the experience.

Certification
Students who complete the training are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®).
This advanced YTT program is registered with Yoga Alliance and includes in-person instruction and individualized mentoring during and after the program ends. Scheduled as an immersion, the program days are full, and the activities of the day are kept diverse and active. The days really are a wonderful mix of digesting concepts intellectually, applying the concepts experientially, and diving into the practices of yoga. Care is taken within the program schedule to ensure that students have a healthy experience both physically and mentally. They promise not to keep you sedentary for too long. There is physical activity and deep relaxation built into the program every day.
Typical Daily Schedule
- 08:00 Morning meditation and pranayama
- 09:00 Program morning session: alignment, anatomy, pose study, or therapeutics includes yoga asana class
- 12:30 Lunch prepared for you with love and health
- 13:30 Program afternoon session: techniques and teaching methodology includes sequencing and/or philosophy, restorative, yoga nidra, and/or special topics
Most evenings are free, although expect occasional evening sessions and or home assignments.
Instructors
Liz Heffernan
Liz Heffernan, E-RYT 500, C-IAYT is an international yoga teacher and Integrative Yoga Therapist. She draws from over two decades of personal yoga practice, 25 years of teaching and extensive training in the Hatha yoga systems of Kripalu, Ashtanga, and Anusara. She currently directs and leads Yoga teacher trainings and workshops worldwide, provides unique one-to-one mentoring for yoga teachers, instructs daily yoga classes and offers private therapeutic sessions. Additionally, Liz serves as a mentor/faculty for the Kripalu School of Integrative Yoga Therapy Professional Yoga Therapy program.
Peggy Profant
Peggy Profant, C-IAYT Yoga Therapist, E-RYT 500, and certified Anusara yoga teacher first discovered the practice in 1980 and began teaching it to others in 1997. Ashtanga, Iyengar, and Anusara are the schools in which have influenced her practice. As one who lives courageously from her heart, she passionately teaches her classes with meaningful yogic themes while keeping a keen attention to alignment. In addition to yoga, being in nature and with her family is where she finds her deepest joy and peace.
Location
This 300-hour teacher training is hosted at Blue Lake Sanctuary, a custom home yoga studio in the personal residence of Peggy, one of your primary teachers, in Blue Lake, CA. This unique space accommodates 16 students and features artful architecture, a wood-burning fireplace, and radiant heated floors—creating the perfect environment for deep learning.
Each day, you will be served a healthy lunch in the dining area with pastoral views of redwood-forested hills, offering a serene backdrop for meals and discussion. The sanctuary's location provides walking access to the Mad River, with beautiful hiking trails and swimming holes. Just minutes away, ancient redwood groves tower majestically, offering profound opportunities for forest bathing and meditation among these thousand-year-old sentinels.
Only 15 minutes from Blue Lake is the charming town of Arcata, with a vibrant plaza filled with locally-owned cafés, artisan shops, and organic markets. Saturday farmers markets bring the community together with live music, local produce, and handcrafted goods.
