Faculty Mission
The Nexus Institute 200-hour teacher training program is led by Horace and Janel Usry, Ph.D. Each training is informed by the latest academic research and by the lived experience of their participants. At Nexus, you will experience a safe, sacred, and nurturing environment that enables personal growth as a yogi, a yoga teacher, and as a human being. With over 20 years experience in yoga education, they have assisted hundreds of teachers-in-training to transform their lives and those around them.
Curriculum
Here at Nexus, they take a scaffolding approach to education. They will support your personal yoga inquiry without presuming to know or determine how an experience will land in your world.
Week One includes an orientation and welcome meal. During our first week together you will learn about the origins of yoga including the many contextual influences that make modern yoga what it is today. You will learn foundational postures including alignment, modifications, anatomy, and assists. You will actually teach your first day here, beginning with a single posture and progressing to a mini practice teach.
Week Two focuses on sequencing the postures into vinyasa flows and creating a complete class experience. During week two, we also dive into the energetics of yoga including breathwork, chakras, bandhas, and meditation. At the end of week two, you will have your second practice within a small group of four of your fellow students.
Week Three brings everything together and prepares you to take your personal expression of yoga out into the world. You have your final practice teach toward the end of the week. We end with an evening graduation celebration together. You will graduate fully authorized and accredited to teach Hatha and Vinyasa style Yoga.
