Below you can find some more information and a little description on the on-campus accommodations offered:

Apas Room: private room with private bath and A/C

The Apas Room is a private room in the Western Air Temple named after the element of water. This room is one of their newest creations, and it is named such because it is on the west side closest to the Pacific Ocean.

A double bed, shelves, ceiling fan, A/C, and balcony laid on wood floors—everything for a private retreat. This room has an attached newly constructed private bathroom.

Aum Cabin with private bath

A hexagon-shaped bungalow whose shape was chosen due to its flow of spiritual energy. This cabin has its own bathroom and indoor shower. Enjoy the outdoor patio area where you can sit, write, contemplate, or simply relax while surrounded by nature. Enjoy a private balcony set in the opposite direction. You will always have shade between the patio and balcony space.

This cabin is shared by two people and is surrounded by flowering bushes and fruit trees that are home to so many hummingbirds and birds. This is private property and the closest neighbors are 1/4 a mile away! Perfect for a mindful experience.

Vayu Room: private room, shared bath and A/C

The Vayu Room is a private room in the Western Air Temple named after the element of air. This room is one of their newest creations, and it is named such because it has a beautiful balcony view of the forest that makes you feel like you are high up in the air. A bed, shelves, ceiling fan, A/C and balcony laid on wood floors—everything you need. This room shares a new bathroom with 2 others from the Tejas Room.

Tejas Room: double room, shared bath with A/C

The Tejas Room is a double room in the Western Air Temple named after the element of fire. This room is one of their newest creations, and it is named such because of the energy sparked when sharing a room with a like-minded soul. This room receives illuminating light from the sun through the jungle view window.

The room has a bunk bed with drawers, A/C and wood floors. This room shares a new bathroom with one person from the Vayu Room.

Humble Abode: private room with shared bath

A cozy wood cabin simple enough to remind us how simply great life is. This on-campus cabin comes with an outdoor shower and a shared bathroom. Perfect for one, too tight for more.

Program

Certification

Students who complete the training are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®). This certification is an internationally recognized credential.

At Pura Veda Gurukulam, you learn through direct experience, daily rhythm, nature, and community living. The small-group, family-style training is designed to help you deepen your personal practice, reconnect with yourself, and develop the skills and confidence needed to teach yoga, if that is your calling.

Each yoga teacher training is facilitated by Sonia Kaur, lead teacher, and her son, Ciro Nirvair, assistant teacher. It is Sonia and Ciro’s commitment to meet you where you are and guide you on your journey whether you aim to deepen your experience with yoga or wish to be a teacher. During this training you will receive individualized attention so you will be seen, have the space for personal discussions and ask any questions you have.

You will be surrounded by nature and just a mile from the Pacific Ocean, in an intentional space designed to support yoga and Ayurveda. Each day you will explore yoga through theory, reflection, experience, contemplation and nature.

You will leave this training with embodied knowledge, a grounded nervous system, and tools to live and share yoga in an authentic, meaningful way.

Traditional teaching method

Traditionally, students learned yoga by living with their guru in a gurukulam, an immersive environment where wisdom was passed down through personal guidance, shared rituals, and the rhythms of daily life. Teachings weren’t just delivered; they were embodied, experienced, and absorbed through presence and practice.

Pura Veda Gurukulam honors this sacred way of learning. Their training is modeled after this ancient tradition, inviting you into a deeply rooted experience where yoga is not just practiced, it becomes your way of being. You will explore the many dimensions of yoga and Ayurveda, deepening your personal journey while gaining the tools to guide others with clarity, integrity, and compassion.

This immersive training empowers you not only to teach, but to hold space for transformation, helping your students walk their own unique path with authenticity and purpose.

Course curriculum

This YogiBeYoga and Ayurveda teacher training is a compilation of 64 years of experience from their team in education, yoga and Ayurveda. This program is unique in that it provides an understanding of Ayurveda, yoga’s sister science, meant to be practiced in harmony with yoga.

Benefits you will experience

This teacher training is designed to follow the 8 steps of yoga (Ashtanga) as presented by Patanjali so you can experience:

Deep roots

Observe and practice the yamas and niyamas internally and externally to provide a strong foundation for your practice.

Detoxification

Release and get rid of waste in the form of blockages and stiffness as you move deeper through the asanas and as the asanas move deeper through your physical and subtle bodies.

Transformation

Learn the techniques of pranayama to release and detox physical, emotional, mental trauma and blockages. Repattern mindset to let go of habits that don’t serve you in place of new intentional habits.

Ayurveda

Experience the rewards of balancing health through yoga’s sister science, Ayurveda, by following a morning routine (dinacharya) that has been designed in the daily schedule.

Balance

Understand and apply the five elements and doshic theory to create balance within yourself and within your yoga classes.

High energy (prana/chi/qi)

Enhance your well being by eating 3 high prana, organic, vegetarian meals created by an Ayurvedic chef for clear digestion of thoughts.

Daily schedule

The daily schedule was intentionally designed to support an Ayurvedic daily routine (dinacharya). This daily schedule is focused on developing consistency, recalibrating your circadian rhythms and supporting digestion.

  • Hot water with lemon will be available in the morning
  • 6:00 - 8:00: Morning yoga, pranayama and meditation practice
  • 8:00: Breakfast
  • 9:30 - 12:00: Theory class, exploration, asana lab
  • 12:00 - 12:30: Lunch
  • 12:30 - 14:30: Rest, free time, exploration, self study
  • 14:30 - 17:00: Theory class, exploration, asana lab
  • 17:00 - 17:30: Seva / free time
  • 17:30: Dinner
  • 18:30 - 19:30: Yoga philosophy circle and discussion
  • 20:00: Quiet hours begin

You will observe silent hours between 20:00 to 8:00 to preserve the integrity of the space and training, allowing those students who wish to take advantage of this time to expand their inward journey.

The training experience

This yoga teacher training provides an integrative approach that pulls from various styles and modalities. Theory classes, philosophy discussions, meditation, pranayama practice, anatomy and hands-on asana labs, self-reflection, and explorations are some of the many techniques you will use to deepen your understanding of yoga.

This training was created from a vision that goes beyond just learning how to teach yoga. Together as a community, you will live yoga through daily rhythms, reflection, and exploration. You will share skills like sequencing and asana alignment, along with the tools to become a confident teacher. You will also explore yoga, breathe yoga, and integrate this practice in a way that stays with you long after the training ends.

Some other unique aspects of this training include:

  • Learning in a living school of yoga and Ayurveda (Gurukulam): You will learn, explore, and be yoga every day through daily living. This training is designed to help you integrate the profound teachings of yoga off the mat as well.
  • Explorative learning: You focus a lot of energy on explorations and explorative learning so that you can resonate with and embody the material being taught rather than just memorizing facts. Traditionally, yoga was taught through inquiry-based, experiential, and explorative learning. Through this course, you honor the traditional way yoga has been taught for centuries.
  • Becoming a teacher: From day one all participants get practice being in the role of the teacher. Throughout the course, you will explore sequencing, verbal cueing, alignment, basic adjustments, and how to create a safe practice. The approach integrates multiple modalities from anatomy, teaching methodology, philosophy, traditional yoga, and modern yoga so that you feel confident teaching by the end of this training. To put it simply, if your goal is to teach, this training will provide you with the tools and skills to become a confident teacher.
  • Small groups: They want to make sure that the facilitators can provide individual attention to each participant and really get to know you. You will not exceed a training group of 15 participants. Most of the trainings contain 10 to 12 participants. At Pura Veda you do not need to worry about being just one more face in a large group of students. They intentionally keep trainings to small numbers so they can all build a connection and form a strong community through the 17 days.
  • Community: The Gurukulam is a family-run yoga school. Each student who journeys to this training becomes a part of the Pura Veda family. Pura Veda is a safe space where you can all share, connect, and form a family-like bond that will extend past your time in Costa Rica.

You will experience an Ayurvedic meal plan through three organic, freshly cooked, high-prana, vegetarian meals. The food has a strong impact on your overall well-being, and the food served during the training has been carefully created to support balance and mental clarity. Each week you will get to experience a kitchari cleanse, which means for one day they will serve Ayurvedic kitchari to support detoxification, cleansing, and rejuvenation of the body.

Ayurveda has been carefully woven into the training, from the daily schedule to the food. You will also explore the foundations of Ayurveda, examining the doshas, element theory, and understanding how to create a yoga practice to balance your constitutions. Traditional yoga and Ayurveda were always taught together. They are sister sciences that deeply support one another. Through this course, you will not just gain all the tools needed to become a Yoga Alliance certified teacher, but you will also understand the foundations of Ayurveda and how you can use simple Ayurvedic principles to support your health and well-being.

The yoga teacher training is more than a training, it is an opportunity to transform and rebalance in a supportive and safe environment. It is a space where like-minded individuals come together to live and explore. It is a place where connections are made and community is built. Pura Veda is also their home, and they would love to invite you to come live with them as you explore yoga together.

Included excursions

There is a beach trip one afternoon each week.

Location

The center is only 1 mile from the center of San Juanillo and also 1 mile from 2 beaches. One of these beaches, "The Secret Beach" is still a hidden gem and many times you can find yourself there alone. There is a 1-mile trail through the forest that leads out to the beach right across from the center.

San Juanillo is a small village, surrounded by jungle and nature still. It has not been taken over by tourism as of yet. Many people say it has the same vibe as Nosara many years ago before it became a tourist attraction.

The center is only 8 miles from Nosara and 4 miles from MarBella. There are public buses only 50 meters from the center that bring you to Santa Cruz, MarBella, Ostional and Nosara.
